Former Massage Therapist Pleads Not Guilty to Rape Charges at Westlake Spa

In recent legal proceedings, Kyle Carthens, a former massage therapist residing in Cleveland Heights, entered a plea of not guilty during his arraignment on Monday. Carthens, aged 32, was indicted on October 31 in Cuyahoga County on charges including one count of rape, one count of sexual battery, and three counts of gross sexual imposition. These allegations stem from an incident that allegedly occurred on October 14 at Spa West, located along Center Ridge Road in Westlake.

The reported victim, who had come to Spa West seeking a deep tissue massage, informed the police that Carthens behaved inappropriately and sexually assaulted her during the appointment. Following this ordeal, she underwent a medical evaluation to collect evidence related to the sexual assault, which was subsequently handed over to the authorities.

Spa management informed law enforcement that Carthens had been employed for a brief period before the incident occurred, and he was terminated from his position as a result. Carthens was taken into custody by the police on October 17 while he was en route to work using a rideshare service. He was released from custody after posting 10% of a $50,000 bond on October 24, with the bond having been reduced from its initial amount of $100,000 during his initial court appearance.

Kyle Carthens is scheduled to appear in court again for a pretrial hearing on December 12. Additionally, it has been revealed that Carthens offered in-home massage services through the “Soothe” app. Law enforcement authorities are now encouraging any potential additional victims to come forward with information regarding the case.
