Individual Arrested for Assaulting Woman Who Mistook His Vehicle for an Uber

A man from Worcester was arrested in Boston for allegedly assaulting a woman who mistakenly entered his car, thinking it was her Uber. Qabel Najeeb, 29, faces a rape charge and appeared in Boston Municipal Court. He’s held on $10,000 bail, with conditions including a GPS bracelet and a curfew from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. if he posts bail, as stated by the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.

The incident reportedly occurred early Saturday morning on Border Street in East Boston. The 32-year-old victim, after leaving a downtown nightclub, hailed an Uber that canceled. She then entered another vehicle, believing it to be her Uber. The driver, identified as Najeeb, allegedly drove to an area near Storrow Drive, where the assault took place. He then left her on Border Street.

The case progressed with the help of video surveillance and the victim’s descriptions, leading to the identification of Najeeb’s car and him as the driver.

Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden commented on the case, highlighting the woman’s expectation of safety and the driver’s exploitation of the situation. He assured support for the victim throughout the justice process.
