Individual Charged with Impersonating Uber Driver and Committing Sexual Assault on Woman Exiting Boston Nightclub

A Massachusetts resident faces charges of sexual assault following an incident in which he allegedly attacked a woman who mistakenly entered his vehicle, believing it to be her Uber ride.

On Sunday night, Boston law enforcement apprehended Qabel Najeeb, a 29-year-old from Worcester, in connection with the incident that occurred early Saturday morning. The allegations suggest that he transported the woman from Bijou Nightclub to an alley near Storrow Drive and proceeded to sexually assault her.

According to a police report, the victim had summoned an Uber ride around 2:15 a.m., only to have the original driver cancel the trip a few minutes later. Surveillance footage reportedly shows the woman entering a blue Toyota Corolla driven by Najeeb.

The journey commenced from Stuart Street, progressing along Charles Street near the Boston Common. The victim informed authorities that the assailant halted the vehicle near some brownstone buildings just prior to reaching Storrow Drive. She recounted how he forcibly moved her to the back seat, obstructing the window’s view with a T-shirt, and proceeded to commit the sexual assault.

During the ordeal, the woman stated that fear paralyzed her, preventing her from taking any action. Following the assault, Najeeb subsequently drove her back to her residence.

Subsequently, Najeeb was taken into police custody late on Sunday evening. He was arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on Monday and is currently being held on a bail amount of $10,000.
